Do your neighborhood kids a favor this year and don’t add to their complete sugar high come this October 31. Back in the day, trick or treating didn’t always mean chasing from house to house for handfuls of goodies or king-sized candy bars. Halloween doesn’t have to belong to the candy companies. The most memorable houses we visited gave out unique treats. Growing up, we lived near a few professional athletes who always gave signed pictures and let the kids run through their mini haunted house that they created. Another neighborhood had a cul-de-sac where each house set out luminaries and provided mini loaves of Wonder Bread, a cotton candy machine, a lemonade stand, and hot and fresh mini donuts. Granted, we don’t condone taking homemade items from strangers, but for families that you know the extra thought goes a long way. Another great and unique gift was little cheapo spider rings that were always fun! You can always go skimpy and threaten them to “trick” you instead. Just don’t be surprised if you end of with a bag of burning poo or a yard covered in toilet paper. Happy Halloween!
