Why does our society make it ten times easier to consume foods that are terrible for our bodies instead of healthy items? My brother moved in with us this week, for a couple months, and we told him that he was done living like a college kid. We’re going to help him learn how to live in a clean place and eat healthy (most of the time). Tonight I made some turkey burger tacos, loaded with extra finely chopped veggies and low fat cheese with salsa. Every time I mention substituting a turkey burger for beef he rolls his eyes at me. In my two favorite recipes, meatloaf and spaghetti sauce, I manage to hide extra veggies that my family doesn’t know about. These little tips I got from a great book, “Deceptively Delicious,” by Jessica Seinfeld, She shares the step by step process of pureeing your own fruits and vegetables then “hiding” them within your everyday recipes. Her book also showcases recipes that you wouldn’t even think of, yummy desserts.
Towards the end of feeding my son baby food I had a ton of extra veggie cubes that I handmade in the freezer. I started throwing 3-4 cubes into any type of sauces and soups that I made, to use them up. There is no sense in fighting over eating healthy if you are the one that makes the dishes..,just slip them in when no one is looking.
