Hey there, it is Daddy Hughes (husband of Happy Hour Mom’s Shannon) and I am back from a long vacation of contributing to HHM. In the past we Dads were writing weekly posts (more like monthly) but over the last few months I have been doing a lot of traveling and haven’t had the opportunity to really sit down and write something. But it’s better late than never and what better time than to come back than for the Holidays.
One thing that I have realized this year is that it is not how expensive or large the gift is, but more importantly the meaning behind it. You may think a five year old would much rather have the three story barbie dream house, but I still find that my little girl would rather have time with her daddy and a meaningful gift. So this year, in addition to a few fun gifts, I am going to start a new tradition in our family. I am going to write my girls a letter (this Christmas and every Christmas thereafter) for them to open on their 16th birthdays. We will keep them in keepsake boxes and they will be able to read the letters I have written for them. I want to do my best to capture the moment, where we are, and who they are at this point in their lives. I want to write about what they mean to me, daddy, and how they are changing each year. I really can’t think of anything more meaningful for them to have in the future. What are your “Daddy” traditions?
Happy Holidays and God Bless!!
