only in a foreign land…

Thanks for coming back! Congrats, you are officially a Happy Hour Mom! Make sure you check us out on Twitter and Facebook!

Don’t get me wrong. Traveling and exploring is an amazing feat, it opens one’s eyes to a beautiful world of different cultures to appreciate. Although, each place is dramatically different, especially when coming from an American’s outlook. For some, change is hard. The warm comfort of your everyday bubble makes life easier. I love the process of gaining repect for a new land, but there are a few things that someone really needs to send a memo about.
Only in a foreign land…
- will you see a 4 year-old riding shotgun, without a seat belt, sticking his head out the window.
- will you hear a 3 year-old request a sip of alcohol, any actually get it when he wants.
- can you see people driving in traffic, weaving in and out of the lines-and they’re recognized as good drivers.
- pregnant women, not only hanging in a smokey restaurant, but lighting up themselves and not worrying about blowing smoke near a toddler.
- can an American family ask to sit in a non-smoking section to hear, “everywhere is smoking.” So they ask to sit away from everyone and the waiter says, “I’m sorry that section isn’t open.”
- will the power go out 5 times a day, on a good day.
- you learn to understand why the electricity is so terrible when you see a power line wrapped with 100 other chords (no joke!)
- will you witness a 5 foot deep pothole, and be expected to figure a way around it on the fly.
- can you find quality childcare for ridiculously cheap.
- will every great restaurant offer a take-away menu and deliver!
