I used to think I was fortunate to be having a baby in today’s day and age. I bought a membership to Consumer Reports, researched everything I “had” to buy, and truly enjoyed finding handy gadgets that promised to make my life easier. That was before now. Now I’m pregnant again, and I have to find a stroller to accommodate both kids. So I was excited, and again almost looking forward to the cool stuff I would find.
No. Absolutely not. I just made a list of NINE strollers that encompass what I am looking for. NINE! What am I going to do with that? Show it to my husband, who will automatically laugh at me and the $800 Phil&Teds stroller at the top of my list. But how do I decide? I am truly torn in nine different directions, by cost and the zillions of features each stroller offers. It’s a freaking stroller! Do I really need this many options?
It really is ridiculous. Because now I am convinced that I want a mod stroller with the option of an attachable second seat and/or foot stand. Or should I go with the double stroller that can face either of the two seats in every direction? Or the Sit ‘n Stand with the now upgraded second seat option? How big is the cargo hold? Do I need one that attaches my infant seat? Do the seats recline? OMG! Why does this have to be so complicated?
I am beginning to think it is all my fault. I am turning into a stroller whore. Is my perpetual need for more shoes and handbags spilling over into my mommy life? I am serious. I own three stollers already! The practical carseat + stroller travel system, the chinsy $20 umbrella stroller we bought for traveling, and our Bob jogging stroller that I had to have for mother’s day before she was even born. I don’t think my husband could even wrap his head around ANOTHER stroller.
Now for the excuses that I tell myself to justify a possibly $800 purchase for something that we actually already have. 1. The new one is so much cooler and prettier than mine. 2. Mine can’t fit two kids. 3. I NEED it! 4. My toddler will get tired of walking and has to have her own seat. 5. I need restraints for my toddler and (soon to be) infant so I can sip my latte without spilling it. 6. The new one is so much cooler and prettier than mine!!!!
Wow. I think I am very shallow… and possibly crazy. Or can I blame it on our culture’s mentality of needing the newest thing, or the grass is always greener? Why do I feel the need to “need” more, when I really don’t need any of it? Why do I stay up until three in the morning researching all of the different strollers that I could possibly buy?
My conclusion is this- choices are bad for me. Give me choices, and I want them all. Have you ever been on a cruise? You can order every entrée offered and every dessert on the menu- for one meal! Believe me, I have done it. I thought it was pretty cool until I was puking up my chocolate cake in my stateroom. So my stroller search seems ridiculous, but mostly because I want to have a stroller with every feature that I have ever seen! I AM SUCH A WINNER… wow I’ve been saying that a lot lately. Blame it on the belly!

Your basically right. Why buy one stroller then another then third. However there is a sound rational to this:
Strollers are not all the same, just a stroller. They have different uses and reasons for being available.
And that is why some most advanced strollers are made to have many adaptations and forms to be a sort of one fits all solution. But for such a stroller can be not only high-end but more pricey since it is still able to be used with one child, two children, a very young baby to a older toddler. An Umbrella Stroller is a light and simple stroller to pick up and put away such as traveling on an airline it makes it easier if a short trip with a young toddler. The first one was designed by and created by a woman who was “just” an Aeronautical Engineer! The carseat-stroller travel system is to make it easier to have a baby in a carseat and keep the baby in it then move the baby to a stroller. It helps a sleeping baby still stay resting what a blessing! Now a third stroller there is a step-on device to modify strollers to have a standing place and hold on to the stroller along with you. Or go for the models that do many more functions! Imagine pushing two children is different strollers at the same time! Unfortunately, with many more multiple births imagine what they have to go through! A single stroller for 3 or more kids! As for all those new options and choices, write down your top requirements along with your budget for a new stroller then choose the one that best meets those top requirements and maybe a few of your nice to have requirements also! What some parents do is get that 800.00 stroller with their first baby IF they are planning or think they would have another baby while the first is becoming a toddler or they have a family history of twins as did our child’s elementary school teacher did. The teacher predicted to her class that she was becoming a mother a lo’ and behold just like many of her siblings and relations also had Twins too! Best of luck on your decision and enjoyed your blog. Let us know what you ended up choosing or not and why. We added a strap to attach to our child’s bippy so when it dropped out of her mouth or dozed off it would still be useable and not fall to the floor it helped alot.
