I just returned from a mini vacay in Florida to help one of my besties get ready for her first baby. Last week she found out that her baby girl is breech and they will do a scheduled C section two weeks early. It’s hard when you think your delivery is going to be the way you had intended, just to get the message it will all be different. When you hear that fearful tone in a close friends voice you know you have to try anything to be there.
I cooked a meal for their freezer, helped pack her hospital bag, assisted in the maternity photoshoot, organized shelves to make space for bottles, stuffed the diaper bag full of goodies, took last minute trips to Target, was the onsite masseuse, and just hung out to enjoy the final days of blissful uninterrupted sleep. The best part of the trip was spent reminiscing my own labor and delivery experience in Dubai and sharing little tips and advice to help get her through the process easier. She has been blessed with an amazing, uneventful pregnancy and can only prepare for the next few weeks that will be full of emotion and love.
When thinking back to March of 2008, I recall how was blessed we were to have two friends assist my husband and I through our labor process. While living abroad we were exciting and liberated at the chance to become parents on our own. But when it came down to those final hours of staring at each other 24/7 I realize how great is to have others there to break up the monotony.
As a pregnant woman going on those final weeks in the third trimester you’re just ready to be finished being pregnant and can’t think of another thing to buy and prepare. For me, all I could think about was meeting that little face. When those final days are becoming closer and closer to your due date it’s becomes harder to focus on anything. In 5 short days we were able to get her calm, cool and collected.
Nursery- clothes washed, charged apparatuses, changing table stocked, darling finishing touches everywhere. check
Freezer friendly meals. check.
Packing the hospital bag. check.
Maternity photos. done and done.
Vivi Lucille arrived March 14 at 8:23 am EST. 6lbs. 8oz. of pure sweetness.
