This is a completely different kind of read for me, but I loved, loved, loved it!!! I read all three books in the series. There is no way to stop once you’ve started!!
This book is amazing! Yes the sexual content is deep but actually not that explicit (maybe I’m not that squeamish). She never says the vulgar trigger words that pop in most erotica (the C words, P word or D word lol). Yes it is deep but sensual. I love the dynamic of the book, it made me feel both strong and also vulnerable. I have SOME issues with the book but none big enough to make me close it…lol in fact I read all three in three days. Don’t pass it up
I totally agree VicMommy! In the first book the story heavily relies on the sex. After finishing all three within a week you can tell I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. Learning more about the characters you’ll see that it’s the sex that helps him to cope, learn to love differently and ultimately see hope in his future. I truly enjoyed each book for different reasons. It brought me back to so many of the awesome heart-wrenching feelings I felt at the beginning of my relationship with my hubby. I’m going to make him read it too!
Hey All
This is my first time on this very cool site – so, I am hosting a book club and you guessed it the book we all read is 50 Shades….any ideas for fun theme-d food or drink for the party? I already plan on makins something “vanilla” for sure! Any ideas from you HMMs would be wonderfully appreciated.
I read all three and loved them! I am hosting our book club next week and am looking for ideas too. I have all of the grey decor I could find – paper plates, napkins, straws, candy, tissue pom poms, etc. I am going to have everyone’s name on a name tag when they arrive in the 5o Shades format – ex: Mrs. Smith, Ms. Jones, Etc. I saw a few ideas on pinterest for arti”choke” dip and humm”ass” and a bow tie pasta called “All Tied Up”. I don’t know if it will go that route or just stick to the standard aps – caprese, dips, veggies. My signature drink is going to be the Greyhound (vodka and grapefruit juice). I am so looking forward to hearing what all of the ladies think of the book! Please share any book club ideas if you have them!
You have some really great ideas on your hands! We too have loved reading all three books. I seriously couldn’t’ put it down and flew through them in 6 days. We would LOVE to post pictures from your event! If I can think of any other cute details I’ll send them your way!
Great ideas. I am having a book club / ladies night in2 weeks as well. We are all wearing grey. Everyone is going to bring an item from their house and adapt it for use in the “red room”. We are all wearing grey and I have as many decorations as I could find. I found some good quiz questions from the books. My invites were written in the form of an e-mail from Christian Grey himself.
Christine,
I would love to see the invite you wrote from Mr. Grey himself, i have to host a book club mtg in 2 weeks and i would love to do something like that.
Love all the ideas! http://pinterest.com/happyhourmom/50-shades-of-grey/ We pinned a few more ideas on Pinterest. Have you thought about “forbidden fruits,” zip ties with raspberries on them, malted milk balls on dental floss, signs that say “Keep Calm and Stow your Twitchy Palm” or “Keep Calm and Laters Baby” or red vines for a dessert option?
My friends are bringing white wine, vanilla dessert, the bow-tied-up pasta someone smartly suggested, and I’m bringing the tossed salad
hahaha
Hi Toni!
I had my party and it was a hit! Everyone happened to wear grey which was such a fun detail. People who are still planning their parties should definitely suggest that to all guests. I also loved the email invitation idea – I wish I would have read that before my party! For food I had salted almonds for the “salty”, jalapeno chips for “spicy”, vanilla wafer cookies and white chocolate vanilla bean squares for how he described her as “vanilla” (plus other non themed snacks). The greyhound drink was also really fun and tasty. And for party favors I found nail polishes with spicy, 50 Shades themed names. I put them in grey and white chevron bags. I had so much fun with all of the details and the discussions were even more fun! Good luck with all of your parties! What awesome ideas! I do Passion Parties so I have been doing a lot of “50 Shades” parties, but I am also planning a 50 Shades Bunco this weekend! I’m going to do a lot of what you all have said! And my gift to everyone there is going to be our nibblers chapstick with a note tied that says “stop biting your lip”
Love the chapstick idea for party favors!
