I am truly blessed with an amazing group of women to call my best friends. We all met at Drake University and were part of the same sorority. After 4 crazy years together at school we managed to be apart of each other’s major milestones for the past 13 years. Weddings, babies, triumph and tribulation is what brings us together at least 2 times a year. Our latest celebration took place in Florida for a Hibiscus baby shower for sweet Vivi. My goal for the overall design was to incorporate the outdoor Floridian elements and showcase bright colored décor and fresh foods that are locally sourced.
What I truly enjoy about event planning are the extra special details. I frequently ask myself if my choices will add value to the group or make a special impression and memory for the guest of honor. When the answer is always yes you know that you’ll have a party to remember on your hands. For Baby Vivi I wanted to give her aunties, from all over the world, the chance to give special wishes and advice via paper lanterns. After we took turns reading each wish we lit each langern and let them fly high in thr sky. One of our closest ladies couldn’t travel to Florida because of the upcoming arrival of her third child. We made sure to call via Skype so that she could attend the shower remotely. The third little detail was to provide a small token each woman could take to remember such a fun weekend. Favors don’t have to be expensive or fussy but just a little something. I found the cutest little trinket trays and flower shaped lip gloss to provoke memories each time they are used.
